Full range of business activities: UGOE is one of Germany’s oldest and most distinguished universities. It is a major educator and research institution of the Central German State of Niedersachsen. It has currently ca. 24.000 enrolled students. In the university, there is a close collaboration between different departments, in particular between the Physics Institutes and the Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry departments. Of particular interest is a close cooperation with the Max-Planck-Institute of Biophysical Chemistry. Role in the project: The involved laboratory at the Department of Physics will implement multiple point MPD detectors into an operating confocal scanning system and use that for spectrally-resolved Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy of biological samples in vitro and in vivo. Qualification for these roles: The laboratory has many years of experience in single molecule spectroscopy and imaging. The core activity is the development and application of advanced methods in single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging. The lab pioneered several powerful techniques such as 2-focus fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (2fFCS), fluorescence lifetime correlation spectroscopy (FLCS), or defocused image analysis of single molecule (DIAM).
