Full range of business activities: POLIMI is a leading technical university in Italy. Founded in 1863, it has now 5 campus, 9 Faculties (6 of Engineering, 2 of Architecture, Industrial Design), 17 departments and over 40.000 enrolled students. The Dept. of Electronics and Information performs research and educational activities in the fields of Electronics, Computer Science, Control Engineering and Telecommunications. Role in the project: Design of the SPAD array; design and fabrication of the integrated active quenching circuits in a standard CMOS technology. Development of a compact multichannel photon detection module including the array detector and the associated electronics. Qualification for these roles: POLIMI has carried out pioneering activity and attained worldwide acknowledged leadership in the development of SPAD devices and associated electronic circuits and instrumentation. It introduced the active-quenching circuit concept (AQC), which opened the way to practical applications of SPADs, and is the first group that has developed monolithic integrated AQCs. It developed new silicon SPAD devices in various generations, in collaboration with industries and academic laboratories.
